The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has executed over 700 development projects across the six states of the North-East, as part of ongoing efforts to accelerate recovery, rebuild critical infrastructure and improve the socio-economic conditions of communities affected by years of insurgency.

The disclosure was made in Maiduguri by Comrade Mahmud Muhammad, Personal Assistant to the President on Domestic Affairs (North-East), Office of the Vice President, during a sensitisation meeting organised by the Borno State chapter of the City Boy Movement on the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic membership registration exercise.

According to him, the projects span key sectors including education, healthcare, road infrastructure, mass housing and skills acquisition, and are aimed at restoring normalcy and promoting sustainable development across the region.

He explained that the interventions include the construction of mega schools, hospitals, roads, housing schemes and skills training centres in different parts of the North-East.

Muhammad said the coordination of federal interventions under Vice President Kashim Shettima has strengthened development efforts in the region, noting that the Vice President’s background and experience in the North-East have enhanced effective project delivery.

He stated that the NEDC’s activities were designed to address long-standing infrastructural deficits and support communities recovering from conflict.

He added that the development initiatives align with broader national policies targeted at economic recovery, youth empowerment and inclusive growth, stressing that improved infrastructure and human capital development remain central to long-term stability in the North-East.

The disclosure was made against the backdrop of the APC e-registration exercise, which Muhammad described as a critical step toward strengthening internal party democracy and expanding youth participation in the political process.

He urged young people in the region to take advantage of the digital registration platform to ensure their voices are represented in decision-making processes.

He emphasised that sustained investment in infrastructure, coupled with active civic participation, would further consolidate peace and development in the North-East, calling on citizens to support ongoing recovery efforts across the region.
