The Gombe State Police Command has recorded major successes in its ongoing fight against violent crime, including the arrest of a suspected bandit and the rescue of a kidnapped victim in Kaltungo Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, operatives attached to the Pindiga Divisional Police Headquarters arrested a suspected bandit, Shehu Hussaini, from Mansur Village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, during a stop-and-search operation on 18 January, 2026.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of 13 live cartridges, a cutlass, a knife and a red Honda motorcycle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he was allegedly on his way to deliver the cartridges to his commander in a forest area within the Mansur axis of Alkaleri LGA.
He is currently in police custody while investigations continue to track down other members of the group.In a separate operation, police operatives, in collaboration with vigilantes and local hunters, rescued Hon.
Hassan Reuben of Nahuta Village, Tula District, who was abducted on 20 January, 2026. He was rescued unhurt the following day at Tule Berbere, near Kunge Village in Kaltungo LGA, after a coordinated search operation.
The victim was taken to hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with his family. Three women suspected to be spouses or accomplices of the kidnappers were arrested in the area where the victim was rescued, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the principal suspects.
Meanwhile, the Command also reported other notable arrests during the week under review, including:The arrest of four suspects in Dukku LGA in possession of 304 counterfeit United States 100-dollar notes, with one of the suspects alleged to be the supplier.
The arrest of two other suspects in possession of substances suspected to be mercury, believed to be used in the production of counterfeit currency.
The arrest of a suspect for house-breaking and motorcycle theft in Akko LGA, with one accomplice currently at large.Commending the officers for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime-fighting efforts across the state.
