The Students’ Wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups (SW-CNG) has urged students in Borno State to embrace responsible leadership and reject social vices, as part of efforts to promote peace and stability on campuses.

The call was made on Wednesday during a one-day public lecture organised by the SW-CNG at the University of Maiduguri. The lecture, themed “Building Responsible Student Leadership,” was held on January 21, 2026, at the Elkanemi Hall, Maiduguri.

According to SW-CNG, the lecture was aimed at discouraging negative behaviours such as drug abuse, campus violence and hate speech, while addressing the root causes of conflict through proactive engagement rather than reliance on security measures alone.

SW-CNG said the initiative focuses on character development, ethical conduct and empowering students to become ambassadors of peace and positive change within their academic communities.

The event attracted government officials, representatives of civil society and non-governmental organisations, students from various institutions across Borno State, corps members, lecturers and other dignitaries.
