Concerned citizens from the Chibok, Damboa and Gwoza federal constituency of Southern Borno have called on APC leaders to endorse Honourable Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir as their candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a rally organised by the group in Maiduguri on Sunday, Hon. Bulama Sawa said the call reflects a collective resolve by communities across the three councils to strengthen representation and sustain development in the zone.

According to him, the appeal is based on Dr. Bashir’s record in public service, leadership capacity, party loyalty and grassroots engagement, which the group said position her for effective legislative representation.

The group noted that the initiative is entirely community-driven and was undertaken without the prior knowledge or involvement of Dr. Bashir Musa Modu and Fatima Ali said they travelled from different parts of Southern Borno to express their views through peaceful and lawful means, including a visit to Dr. Bashir’s residence to urge her to serve once again.

Describing themselves as law-abiding citizens, the group expressed confidence in the judgement of Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, given his close working relationship with Dr. Bashir.

They called on party stakeholders to consider the appeal within the context of inclusivity and balanced representation, emphasising the importance of women’s participation in leadership and development.

The citizens said effective legislative representation would help consolidate the state’s long-term development agenda, particularly in infrastructure, security, resettlement, healthcare, agriculture, education and social services.

They also appealed to party leaders, elders, religious and traditional leaders, as well as community organisations, to support the call in the interest of unity and sustainable development in Southern Borno and Borno State.

The group expressed confidence that the appeal would receive due consideration as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace, while reaffirming their support for government and commitment to peace, stability, due process and respect for constituted authority.

The citizens further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their leadership and commitment to peace and development, particularly in the North-East.

They also praised Governor Zulum for his leadership in peacebuilding, reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement, noting that his people-centred approach has continued to restore confidence across the state.
