Troops of the Nigerian Army have cleared Boko Haram terrorist camps in Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma, within the Sambisa axis, in sustained offensive operations against the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

This was disclosed in a statement signed and made available to journalists by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI.

The statement explained that the operation, conducted on Sunday, January 18, 2026, was part of the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and degrading their operational capabilities.

Troops advanced from their harbour areas in a series of deliberate, intelligence-led manoeuvres targeting identified hideouts in the Timbuktu Triangle.

The operation was supported by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which provided continuous Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance coverage.

The air-to-ground coordination enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movements, prevented reinforcements, and enhanced the effectiveness of the ground assault.

During the clearance operations, troops recovered items of military and logistical significance, including communication radios, mobile phones, AK-47 magazines, assorted ammunition, Boko Haram and ISWAP flags, medical supplies, bags of grains, a pick-up vehicle, underground logistics storage facilities, and a petroleum, oil and lubricant dump.

The advancing troops came under armed drone attacks by insurgents around midday, but successfully repelled the assaults and maintained momentum.

A second attack later in the evening was also thwarted, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming troops’ control of the area.Despite sustained engagements, the military said troop morale and operational efficiency remained high, while the general security situation in the axis was calm but unpredictable, with forces maintaining a high state of readiness.

The Military High Command reaffirmed that the offensive would continue, stressing that troops remain resolute in their mandate to eliminate terrorist threats, protect civilians, and restore lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
