The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, 20 February 2027.
The confirmation came after a press briefing in Abuja, where the commission released the timetable for the next electoral cycle.
INEC also fixed Saturday, 6 March 2027 for governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections, providing early clarity for political parties and other stakeholders.
The announcement formally sets the pace for preparations ahead of the polls.
Addressing journalists, INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, said the early release of the dates was intended to give all actors including parties, candidates and election officials sufficient time to plan within the limits of constitutional and legal requirements.
He noted that the commission had drawn up the timetable after detailed internal consultations. “We have carefully arranged the schedule of activities to support a smooth and credible electoral process,” he said, adding that INEC remained focused on upholding transparency and public confidence as the 2027 elections draw nearer.
