Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has launched a free medical outreach expected to provide healthcare services to more than 5,000 residents.
The programme, introduced by the state government in partnership with the African Medical Centre of Excellence and the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, opened on Friday at the teaching hospital in Bauchi.
Beneficiaries began receiving specialist consultations, diagnostic tests and cardiovascular screenings as part of the outreach.
At the inauguration, Governor Mohammed said the initiative was designed to ease the pressure on communities with limited access to healthcare.
He said expanding medical services to underserved areas remained a key priority for his administration.
He noted that the partnership with the African Medical Centre of Excellence had brought a wider range of medical expertise to the state and would help reduce cases of preventable illness.
The Programme Lead, Brian Deaver, said early detection remained essential in managing health conditions, adding that many patients delay treatment until complications set in.The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, said a team of 40 medical personnel was working with state health workers during the exercise.
She added that some patients had been identified for referral to specialist hospitals.
The outreach is expected to continue for several days as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
