The Borno State Government has organised a two-day training programme to revive the state’s traditional culinary heritage and promote indigenous cuisine among community members.
The programme, titled “Traditional Borno Culinary Heritage Revival,” was organised by the Office of the Senior Special Adviser on Culture and Regional Integration, Zanna Hassan Bogma, under the theme “Promotion of Indigenous Cuisine.”
Speaking during the Program in Maiduguri on Saturday Bogma said the initiative was designed to preserve traditional recipes and cooking methods while equipping participants with practical culinary skills that could contribute to cultural preservation and economic empowerment.

He said the programme focused on three key areas: preserving Borno’s cultural heritage, promoting indigenous cuisine and empowering community members with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Bogma added that the revival of traditional dishes would help strengthen cultural identity and ensure that the knowledge and practices associated with Borno’s cuisine were passed on to younger generations.

He said the initiative also sought to promote wider appreciation of indigenous cuisine and create opportunities for participants to develop culinary skills into viable economic activities.

Also speaking, Bulama Mali Gubio described indigenous cuisine as an important part of Borno’s cultural identity, stressing the need to preserve traditional food practices for future generations.

He said efforts to document, teach and promote indigenous dishes would help keep the state’s culinary heritage alive while creating opportunities for community development.

The training is expected to further promote Borno’s traditional cuisine and strengthen the use of cultural heritage as a tool for skills development and economic empowerment.
