Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have neutralised 12 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and recovered weapons during coordinated operations in Borno State.
In a separate incident, soldiers of Sector 2 came under an ISWAP attack supported by armed drones at Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area in the early hours of 29 January 2025, leading to the death of some personnel.
In a statement on Thursday, the Media Information Officer, Headquarters OPHK, Lt-Col Sani Uba, said troops carried out a dawn operation at Bula Dalo, where they overpowered the insurgents and recovered four AK-47 rifles, a PKT anti-aircraft gun, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a multiple grenade launcher.
He added that troops also conducted a separate operation at Garno, where they neutralised six more fighters, destroyed their structures and recovered a quantity of PKT anti-aircraft ammunition.
Lt-Col Uba said:“In a coordinated dawn attack on 28 January 2025, troops of Sector 1 conducted a surprise operation at Bula Dalo, neutralising over 12 terrorists and recovering several weapons.
“In another deliberate operation at Garno, troops further degraded terrorist capabilities, neutralised six fighters, destroyed their structures and recovered PKT anti-aircraft ammunition.
”He confirmed that troops of Sector 2 faced a serious assault when ISWAP launched an attack supported by multiple armed drones on Sabon Gari.
“Although the terrorists briefly breached part of the defensive position, troops repelled the attack, held their ground and regained full control with reinforcement,” he said.
He noted that some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force lost their lives, while an excavator and a low-bed truck were damaged during the drone strike.
Uba said troops were still conducting follow-up operations to prevent further attacks and deny the insurgents freedom of movement.End.
