Hundreds of vulnerable persons, including people living with disabilities, orphans and religious leaders, have benefited from a palliative distribution program sponsored by the Executive Director Operations of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Abdussalam.
The exercise, which took place at Ibrahim Ahmed Academy in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, featured the distribution of food items, clothing and other essential materials aimed at supporting vulnerable households and easing the burden of economic hardship.
The distribution was coordinated by the Akko Local Government Coordinator of the program, Lukman Hasi, who explained that the initiative was designed to reach the most vulnerable members of society across communities in the area.

Hasi said the selection of beneficiaries followed consultations with community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure fairness and transparency in the process.
“This initiative by the Executive Director Operations of NEDC, Alhaji Abdussalam, is aimed at supporting vulnerable members of our communities, including persons with disabilities, orphans and the less privileged,” he said.
He noted that the intervention has brought relief and renewed hope to many families. “We sincerely appreciate Alhaji Abdussalam for remembering the vulnerable in our communities. This gesture has truly brought smiles to the faces of many people today,” Hasi added.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, representatives of security agencies and other community stakeholders who commended the sponsor for the humanitarian gesture.
Speaking during the event, the District Head of Sambo in Kumo Alh. Yakubu Muhammad Atiku urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items provided and not sell them. “We appreciate the kindness and generosity of Alhaji Abdussalam for supporting our people. I urge the beneficiaries not to sell these items but to use them to support their families as intended,” the district head said.
He described the gesture as a demonstration of genuine concern for the welfare of vulnerable people in the community.

Religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities also benefited from the distribution. One of them, Malam Muhammad Hajjun, expressed gratitude to the sponsor, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. “We are very grateful to Alhaji Abdussalam for this gesture.
At a time when many families are facing difficulties, this support will go a long way in assisting the vulnerable. We pray that Allah continues to bless and reward him,” he said.Some beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the sponsor for remembering them during difficult times.

One of the beneficiaries said the support would significantly ease the burden on their households. “We thank Alhaji Abdussalam for this support. It shows that he cares about the poor and vulnerable in society. May God reward him abundantly,” the beneficiary said.
The palliative distribution program is part of the ongoing humanitarian and community support initiatives championed by Alhaji Abdussalam under the Northeast Development Commission, aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable people and strengthening community support systems across the region.
