The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on Monday joined Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to flag off the construction of a ₦1 billion Zonal Office and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in Borno State.

Speaking at the ceremony in Maiduguri, Prof. Oloyede lauded the Governor’s dedication to educational development, noting that his efforts have already drawn significant commendation from the Ministry of Education in Abuja.

He described the project as a high-capacity hub that would rival the most advanced centres in the country.

“This building will be a multi-centre CBT facility, comparable to what we have in Kano,” Prof. Oloyede stated. “Addressing the challenges of both the private and public education sectors in one basket is the type of leadership this country needs. I believe this is the type of leadership we need.

“While laying the foundation stone, the Registrar noted that the project was a testament to the Governor’s commitment to the service of humanity and the growth of Nigeria’s educational standards.

Governor Zulum, in his remarks, explained that the ₦1 billion investment is a strategic response to JAMB’s transition toward a fully digital examination model. He emphasized the urgency of expanding computerized infrastructure to ensure that students in Borno and the wider North East are not left behind.

“We are building this because JAMB is going completely online in the coming months,” the Governor said. “We need to provide more computerized centres to give our students the necessary access. I believe this centre will be a game-changer for the education sector.

“Zulum described the project as his administration’s “modest contribution” to national education, noting that the facility would serve as a regional hub for candidates sitting for tertiary entrance examinations.

The facility is expected to significantly reduce logistical hurdles for students in the region while improving the efficiency of examination administration in the state.
